Back again with an exciting class with Chris our directing lecture. In this class we discussed the difference between objective and subjective camera/POV and how it effects the film.
Objective is less about the emotion and more about what happens. There is a lot of over the shoulder shots and none if any of the face and emotion.
Subjective is when its all about the emotion there is no over shoulder or wide its all close up and tight framing.
So for our next assignment we have to film a shot scene using only one of these. It think I will go objective.

So this week we had an actor come in and talk to us about rehearsals and the whole process one thing that I found different was how the script developed with each performance and what actors need so much information to get the best performance. It was amazing how it all came together.

Ok so this week we dealt with breaking the script down even more. and we try to do this by finding the BEAT in the script. now for all of you who don't know what a beat is, don't worry because neither did I. The BEAT of a story was a term made up by an amazing man, Stanislavski, who created a system for method acting, and directing.
the over all mood in the scene. eg. Chris is fuming about the accusation.
the small things in the script that change the actors acting. eg. Chris is fuming about the accusation. -> Chris decides to interrogate the accuser.

Sorry for the lateness but this topic has stumped me. So i will ask you "Why make short films?".
my first reaction was because we can but as the class discussion went alone i figured i was completely wrong. We make short films to tell a story, to promote our selfs, and because we have little budget.
I didn't realise how hard it can be to be a director for a short film. it's just as complicated as a feature but with more at stake. Most short films are made from the pockets of the directors and since our class i have a higher respect for people who justify making them as a job when everything hangs on that one short film.
